New Version of ArcWeb Services for Developers Now Available
Redlands, California--ESRI, the leader in geographic
information system (GIS) technology, today announced the availability of a
new version of its collection of
ArcWeb Services
for developers. This suite of Web services, called ArcWeb for
Developers, was previously known as ArcWeb USA.
ArcWeb for Developers is a suite of data and
functionality that can be published and accessed over the Web. When
users subscribe to ArcWeb for Developers, they can include geographic
functionality in their applications without having to host the data or
develop any GIS applications themselves. These services use Simple Object
Access Protocol (SOAP), which means they can easily be integrated into any
Web page or custom-built Internet application.
With the new version of ArcWeb for Developers, a variety
of additional functionality and data is available to subscribers. New
features include the ability to
- Do thematic mapping.
- Perform reverse geocoding.
- Specify projections.
- Upload and edit points of interest using SOAP.
- Turn map layers on and off individually.
- Obtain driving directions in a variety of languages.
- Select map styles (for example, users can change the color schemes or
optimize the style for speed or for use on a mobile device).
These features build on the capabilities introduced with
the first version of ArcWeb Services in December 2002, which include access
to dynamic maps, geocoding, place finding, census demographic mapping and
reporting, and the ability to upload and maintain user-defined points of
interest.
ArcWeb for Developers offers access to data from the
world's leading data providers including street data, census population
data, topographic data, flood data, and more. New data sources are being
added all the time.
